Long Island for the curious kid: a mansion full of shrunken heads and a planetarium, a real whaleboat, the spot where Lindbergh-era aviation was born, a museum built for small hands — and a lighthouse with 182 steps that earn the view. Do them in any order; the lighthouse is the boss level.
The stops
Find the strangest thing in Mr. Vanderbilt's collection and strike its pose. Planetarium show = +10, napping during it = -5.
Find the real whaleboat. Whole crew rows the air in sync on video — stroke, stroke, stroke.
Find the lunar module — a real one, built right here on Long Island. Moon-walk photo beneath it.
The museum built for you. Each kid photographed running one exhibit — grown-ups may not help. At all.
Boardwalk race, everybody runs, photo at the finish. Then find a hermit crab in the shallows — look, don't keep.
182 steps to the top. Climb it, ring the view on video, and earn the biggest points on the island. Little legs get carried — that's allowed.
